After the exhibition

Posted in acrylic painting at 8:15 pm by yasuisora

The exhibition in May went swimmingly. Three women, including me, held the exhibition – my mother, my sister-in-law and I. We all sold paintings. I sold five. Yay! It was wonderful! I’m looking forward to do this again next year. There is so much fun to have an exhibition, to be able to show your work, and to mingle with friends. Lots of family and friends came to look at the paintings. I’m most grateful; all the guests were happy and seemed to have a lot of fun. So had I! And I managed to finish all the paintings I had in mind, well in time before the exhibition. I’m happy and full of positive memories from the event.

Finished or not finished?

Posted in acrylic painting at 4:01 pm by yasuisora

As with most projects, my biggest problem is to know when it’s time to finish; when to say to myself: “this is good, I’m gonna stop now, and be satisfied”.

It’s not even two weeks to the exhibition, and I’m finishing paintings. Trying to. How to know when to stop? Look at the two paintings below. Are they finished? Are they not finished? I don’t think they are… or are they?

Progress

Posted in acrylic painting at 9:22 pm by yasuisora

I am making progress.

I have continued painting on the seashell painting. In one state the shells were in silver. I wasn’t happy about it. Today they got more like yellowish. I like them more now. Maybe the painting is almost finished? I just lack the finish on the starfish. I want it to be more alive. Right now it’s just boring red. I’ll add the white touch tomorrow afternoon.

I’m finishing another painting as well. It is an illustration for my children’s book called DF. Read more about my children’s books projects here (in Swedish). I have made the curtain more alive, the painting in whole more black, and I’ve made it better. Now I just have to continue painting, and eventually it will be finished. When it is, I will scan it into my computer, and send a copy with the manuscript to a publishing house. I hope to publish the story along with the acrylic paintings.

Exhibit paintings

Hopefully I’ll be part of an exhibition in May. That means I have a deadline. That’s great, because that means pressure. Pressure means getting things done; as long as I don’t get paralyzed with high expectations and ditto high demands of myself. I’ve started three new paintings during the last month – one winter painting and two others. I do hope I’ll be able to finish these three as well as a whole bunch of others before spring of May.

Venice in Evening Light

Posted in acrylic painting at 8:59 pm by yasuisora

Finally and at last! My painting of Venice is finished! I finished it just a few moments ago.

A year ago, my boyfriend and I visited Venice – such a lovely city! – And I took a whole bunch of photos. Lots of painters have been to Venice to paint the wonderful city, the gondolas and the oh-so-special light. I’m no exception. After our journey, I made a painting, inspired by one of my photos. Originally it was a Christmas gift for my boyfriend. But time flies by. He got this painting last Christmas (2008), but I held the painting hostage, because I wasn’t finished yet. I needed some time to finish the painting. As time passed by, my demands went high up in the air, so high that I got paralyzed… How to finish a painting that needs to be perfect? …I had to lower my standards, but how?

How indeed(?), but NOW, three quarters later, I’ve finished the painting. At last! Hurray!

…By the way, my boyfriend and I went to London last week, and I took a whole bunch of photos… and with all the old buildings and such, I feel inspired… I might start painting a London-view… I wonder if my boyfriend wants to have a painting of London for Christmas…?
